SELF TEST

How Much Numo is in me?

So, have you ever really analyzed or drilled down on your religious beliefs? Most LDS people falsely believe that if their faith is 70% true, then that must be enough, right?

But is it? Would that thought also be accurate for a Catholic, Jew, Methodist, Buddhist, or all other religions? Because Restoration teachings are so unique and isolated from the rest of Christianity, Mormons are less inclined to scrutinize their religion.

If we are entering the End Times it will now be critical to be accurate in our beliefs to avoid pitfalls and additional suffering. The first step is to examine what the church actually does and teaches and then measure it against our conscience. Let's see how well the LDS church matches you.

Question 1- Do you believe that the prophet Joseph Smith secretly practiced polygamy and lied about it?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints along with their Anti-Mormon detractors teach that the Mormon Faith's founder, Joseph Smith introduced polygamy, and secretly practiced it. Numos believe plural marriage was introduced by Brigham Young and Joseph Smith fought against polygamy and was not involved in it.

What is your answer?

A. I believe Joseph Smith was honest when he said that he was not involved in polygamy. (5)

B.  I accept the information that the LDS Church and Joseph Smith's critics use and their labeling of Joseph Smith as a secret polygamist. (0)

C. I am not sure if Joseph Smith was a polygamist; I have never seriously researched the topic. If I found that Joseph Smith lied about his involvement in polygamy, it would make me question his ability to be a true prophet. (2)

D. I am not sure if Joseph Smith was a polygamist. I have never seriously researched the topic. If I found that Joseph Smith was honest about not being involved in polygamy and the LDS Church is unfairly accusing him of being a polygamist, it would make me question the LDS Church's discernment and honesty. (4)

E. The information regarding the accuracy of whether Joseph Smith was or was not a polygamist and if the LDS Church is right or wrong in labeling Joseph Smith as lying about the subject is inconsequential to me. (0)

Question 2 - Do you agree with the LDS Church’s teaching that the current prophet's words are more important than the scriptures or previous prophets?

Ezra Taft Benson said in a 1980 speech at BYU titled Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet

That, “The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet”.

In April 2023, General Conference Elder Haynie repeated the LDS church’s teaching: "Brothers and sisters, unlike vintage comic books and classic cars, prophetic teachings do not become more valuable with age. That is why we should not seek to use the words of past prophets to dismiss the teachings of living prophets."

If prophets communicate to us what the Lord revealed, why would the Lord’s words diminish? Often, an old letter that has served us well becomes more cherished and vital as we gain more insights from experience, rather than depreciating.

Saying that the words of the Savior are less important than those of the current prophet goes against the First Commandment and is not just uninspired but blasphemous.

Are not prophets supposedly expressing what the Lord has told them, so how can one set of God’s words be contradictory or more important than another?

Does the saying, “Follow the prophet,” mean ignore the scriptures?

Ongoing revelation unchecked against the scriptures can become a doctrinal mutation. Is this not what occurred in the Catholic Church with their Popes?

A. I agree that current Church leaders' words should be placed ahead of prior leaders and the scriptures. (0)

B. I feel that the current leader's words should occasionally be put ahead of scriptures and prior leaders on a limited case-by-case basis. (0)

C. I examine the current leader's or any person’s words as information only and study, ponder, seek the Spirit, and try to match it up with the rest of the gospel before I hold anything as the word or will of the Lord. (5)

Question 5 - Are you troubled by the LDS church having a 100 Billion plus worth of secret accounts that they purposely hid from members and the IRS for 20 years with false names?

In February 2023, the Securities and Exchange Commission fined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a nonprofit entity that it controlled, $5 million over accusations that the religious institution failed to disclose its investment holdings properly.
The SEC alleged that the church illicitly hid its investments and their management behind multiple shell companies from 1997 to 2019. In doing so, it failed to disclose the size of the church’s equity portfolio to the SEC, church members, and the public.

A. I do not think the Lord would ever approve of dishonesty, so this two-decades-long deliberate deception is a major red flag about the highest levels of the LDS Church leaders who approved it.
(5)

B. I am not concerned by the LDS Church hiding funds from the government and its members. They must have reasons for doing what they did. (0)

C. I have a hard time understanding the Church's dishonest actions and do not know how to feel about what they did. (3)
